Telemedicine is a growing healthcare revolution. It can make communication between patients and doctors faster, more effective, and more efficient than ever. Telemedicine is a convenient alternative when you can’t see your regular doctor. You can get quality care for minor illnesses without leaving the comfort of your couch. Some treatable conditions include: Allergies, Cold & Flu, Fever, Sinus Infection, Sore Throat, UTI, Pinkeye, Bronchitis, and Skin Conditions.

Telemedicine allows you to see and talk to a doctor from your mobile device or computer.  Below is an overview of Telemedicine services offered by various health insurance carriers.  By using your smartphone, tablet, or computer with a webcam, you can see a board-certified doctor in minutes.

Anthem - LiveHealth Online

Online visits are part of Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield benefits.

It’s free to sign up and you get:

  • 24/7 access to doctors—they can assess your condition, provide treatment options and even send a prescription to your pharmacy.
  • Medical care when you need it.
  • Convenience—no appointments or long waits.
  • Doctors using LiveHealth Online typically charge $49 or less per visit, depending on your health plan. For most copay plans, the charge would be the same as a primary care physician visits.

Humana - Doctor on Demand

Telemedicine benefits are covered under many Humana plans.

They offer a secure virtual visit with a doctor that is:

  • Faster
  • Available anytime, anywhere—24/7, 365 days.
  • Costs less than urgent care or the emergency room for non-emergent reasons.
  • All telemedicine doctors are U.S.-based, U.S. board certified and can prescribe medication if necessary.
  • Video visits cost $49 or less based on your medical plan. Many copay plans cover the visit at $10 or $20, up to primary care physician visits.

UHC - Amwell or Doctor on Demand

Virtual visits are covered under UHC medical plans.

Members may choose between two virtual visit networks:

  • Average response time from initial request for appointment is approximately 30 minutes.
  • 24/7 access to doctors.
  • By providing PCP information to the virtual visit doctor, the visit record can be sent directly to your PCP.
  • Virtual visits cost $50 or less based on your medical plan. Most copay plans cover the visit at $10, while HSA plans cover the visit at the PCP coinsurance. ◙
