The state of Ohio recently passed House Bill 201. As a result, changes have been made regarding dependent age and full-time status.

Changes To Dependent Age For ACA Plans

  • Current dependent maximum age is 28 (if certain criteria are met) with the ability to remain on the plan per House Bill 1. The new age limit is 26. The extension option to age 28 will no longer apply after December 31, 2015. This means those dependents age 26 or older currently on the plan cannot stay covered on a parent’s employer’s policy.
  • There are no changes for currently grandfathered or grandmothered plans.

Changes In Minimum Work Hours For Full-Time Status

  • House Bill 201 raises the number of work hours from 25 to 30 per week for small group employees to be considered full-time eligible. This change takes effect January 1, 2016 for new groups (and for some carriers, at renewal after January 1, 2016 for existing groups).
